Farewell…
To this great and beautiful animal who, after years of walking the streets of Mumbai begging for food, was injured in an accident near Chembur this week. She was hit by a water tanker. She died yesterday.

What a bummer.
Just how did they allow an elephant to walk around Bombay? Begging for food? The head spins.

I remember these words of the British painter David Shepherd “Elephants are the most gentle and benevolent of creatures; it is only man that is the dangerous, arrogant, and greedy animal. All of us who share this world have to live in harmony with nature, not in conflict with her. We ignore this at our peril.”

I am saddened by her death, but also by all that effort and teamwork, so much energy and effort.
How does one hit an elephant in the backside and not see the elephant? I am trying to envision this.
I do not know this city so my vision is impaired on several levels.
To Roopkali.
Thank you for this article,

this is so sad…
I suggest to discourage this practice by not paying these “babas” any money.
It may take some years, and some more deaths, but this practice of captured elephants in towns needs to go.
Right now, I take this decision that I won’t give a paisa to these guys..
what do you think?
