At the movies

February 28, 2009

Our movie-going has become more regular.

The first film we saw at the new PVR Phoenix was Margazhi Raagam, which had Bombay Jayashri and T.N.Krishna in concert. Pity there was just one other person in the hall.

We also saw Milk, Sean Penn’s best performance.

And The Changeling, quite a disappointment.

And Slumdog Millionaire, about which I have mixed feelings. I found the first half of the film very hard to watch.

Delhi 6, which could have been so good, but was… disastrous.

And the superb Dev D, ab out which I wrote here.

  3. Hi Ra,

It was quite nice - I’ve always liked Bombay Jayashree, and T.N. Krishna was good too. Jayashree sang Mayamalavagowlai, Mayateertha Swaroopini, especially beautifully; and Nilambari, and Ritigowlai. Krishna sang Seethapathe in Khamas. He’s much more comfortable on the screen than Jayashree, though I like her singing better. They did a lovely Vande Mataram at the end. The surround sound was superb. But it was like a straightforward concert recording - I had hoped for something a bit more subtle and interesting, and for a better selection of compositions. Hopefully they’ll make more such films, and better ones.

  4. Oh, that sounds a bit disappointing! I wonder if the sound will be the same if I watch it on dvd.
